Things to Do in San Antonio for Halloween

The home girl loves Halloween!    Here is a list of my favorite things to do this year in San Antonio., along with a few tips  for your added enjoyment.
.

Haunted Houses    I was able to find 4 haunted houses that looked really good, and have provided links to their websites so you can get their hours, pricing and location.
13th Floor   This one claims to be the longest and largest horror house in San Antonio, full of intense graphics and theatrics.
Ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult to enter. Please call (210) 338-0382

Nightmare on Grayson   A San Antonio Classic!  I was having my nails done yesterday with a lady who works there.  She told me that they have been there 22 years and it is family friendly.  I am most excited about Zombie Night, when you can dress like your favorite Zombie.

Terror Mansion  **** 4 Star Rated SA Express News  San Antonio's Scariest Haunted House

Ripley's Haunted Adventure  I took Liby and Nikki  (my grandkids) here when they were around 7 or 8 and they LOVED it.  (They are pretty tough cookies)  We got chased by a monster with a chain saw who turned out to be pretty nice.  Nikki lost her flip flop while running and screaming in the dark  and the monster handed the flip flop to her.  It's a pleasantly creepy haunted house, but then it doesn't take much to scare me.

6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Join the Zoo for some “spook”tacularly scary fun at the 25th Annual Halloween event, Zoo Boo at YOUR San Antonio Zoo.
Zoo Boo is an exciting, safe, and non-scary Halloween event for families with children 12 years of age or younder held on the grounds of the San Antonio Zoo.

This event can get REALLY crowded.  Go early, plan to walk far from parking , you may want a flash light or reflective clothing to get to and from the zoo.

The San Antonio Ghost Tracks
I've never actually done this, but I'm sure all my kids have, and it seems to be a popular urban legend.  San Antonio has rumours of ghosts at the Alamo, the Menger, the Emily Morgan and even the Missions, but I must admit this one truly intrigues me.  Maybe this Halloween I will check out a real ghost.  Or, maybe I will be a Zombie at Nightmare on Grayson.

Do you have a favorite halloween haunt in South Texas?  Suggestions for a fun fall activity?  Please add a comment and keep it clean - Texas Home Girl runs a family friendly site :-)

Happy Halloween!

San Antonio Parade of Homes 2011

The Home Girl went to the Parade of Homes this morning!

Every year the Greater San Antonio Builders Association puts on a show featuring the biggest, brightest and best homes, decorating, landscaping, pools, outdoor kitchens, outstanding craftsmanship, awe inspiring designs and ooh la la  that they have to offer.

And OOH LA LA, it was!  They sparkled and shimmered with contemporary features. Silver metallic, or textured faux paint finishes added drama and elegance.   Beaded chandeliers were in abundance.  In most any home, the lighting fixtures were refreshingly different from those we have seen in Parades past.  There were sparkling glass accessories and lighted onyx sinks .There were crystal knobs on cabinet doors.  Glass tiles, marble flooring, marble, granite, Silestone, or under lit honey onyx counters could be found almost anywhere you looked.  It is truly amazing what a million or so will do!

There were outdoor living spaces so grand that you would never want to go inside.  One home even had disappearing glass walls that actually opened to the outdoor living areas, literally bringing the outside in.  Or the inside out, I'm not really sure, but it was quite nice and one of my  favorites.

All of the houses but one had pools.  Two had fire and water features which kind of made me think of the fifth element.  High on the hill, we had wind, some of the most expensive earth in San Antonio,  fire, the negative edged pool had a gas line just beneath the negative edge so you saw a line of fire just above the edge.  It took my breath away! The other pool had a water fall flowing over an outdoor fireplace. I guess the fifth element would be a buyer for any of these homes.  I would be happy to assist and can be reached at http://SanAntonioHomeQuest.com  :-)

With most of the homes in the million dollar and up range, that I nor most of my clients would be able to afford the extreme luxury that was shown at the parade of homes.  What it does for us is open us up to new ideas, style changes and the opportunity to pick the minds of some of the best builders in the business.

The Parade of Homes will be running through Sunday, September 11, 2011

The Resta Fiesta

I can't believe it is almost over!  We've had so much fun and there has been something for everybody!  The San Antonio Home Girl took a little time off from showing houses and went to the Witte to see all the beautiful trains . . . the kind on the back of dresses, not the choo-choo kind. There were trains from before I was even born! Some looked like flappers from the roaring 20's and some were more like Miss America in the 1960's, and some even resembled stained glass windows in churches, but they were all gorgeous.  There were mariachis and of course Mexican food to be eaten in a courtyard.  The sun was shining and the weather was perfect.

Check out the video from "A Taste of New Orleans".  The dancing was almost a flash mob!  We  do know how to have fun in San Antonio.  This event has some of the best jazz around during Fiesta.

Today was the Battle of Flowers parade, and tomorrow you will find the home girl at my favorite event, the King William Fair and Parade.  You can use the link to make sure you don't miss anything . . . just two more days.
